			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Brive</strong> is also known as the Brive-la-Gaillarde, a town in the Limousin region of France.<br />

<p>It is a small city of 49,141 inhabitants and the location of some international tourism, particularly for its history and good food.</p>
<p>The medieval center of the town is primarily a commercial district with retail shops and several cafes for locals and tourists.  It is also the location of the city hall, the police station and the Labenche Museum.</p>
<p>A notable landmark outside the inner city is the Pont Cardinal, a bridge that was once the crossing point for travelers going from Paris to Toulouse.</p>

<p>The original city grew up around a fifth century church dedicated to St. Martin-l&#8217;Espagnol. Walls were built around the city during the twelfth century and during the Hundred Year&#8217;s War, a second wall was built to protect the city&#8217;s inhabitants.  These walls no longer exist and have been replaced by wide boulevards.  </p>
<p>The city was named &#8220;Brive&#8221; until 1919, when it was renamed to be &#8220;Brive-la-Gaillarde.  The word Gaillarde means bravery or strength in the city&#8217;s name although it can refer to the old city walls.  </p>
<p>Brive currently exists beyond its original boundaries into the suburbs of Malemort and Ussac.  </p>
